This award was established in 1984 to honor an individual for his or her professional excellence and service to the IRU. It is named in memory of Dr. George D. Young, one of the IRU's eight original founding members and a past President of IRU.
From 1969 until his death in April of 1984, Dr. Young was Senior Vice President in charge of reinsurance for National Indemnity Company and other affiliates of the Berkshire Hathaway Reinsurance Group. He held a Master's Degree from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York and a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri.
