This seminar will provide a strong foundation for reinsurance practitioners, at either insurance or reinsurance organizations, with regard to the characteristics, operation and uses of both proportional and non-proportional forms of treaty reinsurance.

As a participant you will . . .

Gain an understanding of the five basic forms of proportional/non-proportional treaty reinsurance as well as "mixed" forms combining aspects of different forms
With regard to each of the specific forms, special attention will be paid to:
- Proportional Reinsurance:
  - how quota share performs financing for an insurer
  - how surplus reinsurance assists an insurer to gain needed capacity efficiently
- Non-Proportional Reinsurance
  - how risk excess reinsurance assists an insurer to gain needed capacity efficiently
  - how occurrence excess limits an insurer's largest losses
  - how aggregate (stop loss) reinsurance can be used to rein in volatile exposures over an expanded time horizon
Understand the reinsurance risk management process and how the forms of proportional/non-proportional treaty reinsurance serve to satisfy the needs of reinsurance buyers, using reinsurance to achieve specific financial risk objectives
Understand the major functions of reinsurance
Be able to identify and understand the contractual language that supports the operation of each form of proportional/non-proportional treaty reinsurance
Be able to calculate premiums and losses for each form of proportional/non-proportional treaty reinsurance
Understand the concept of integrating different forms of proportional/non-proportional treaty reinsurance in the process of building treaty reinsurance programs
Fully comprehend the concepts of ultimate net loss and inuring reinsurance
