Steven Graham Volume: 1 Number: 2 Issue: Winter 1993 Page: 41 Abstract: The Chicago Board of Trade is marketing Catastrophe Insurance Futures (CATS) as an alternative to reinsurance. The authors predict very high open interest in CATS but trading volume will be low unless reinsurance becomes more restrictive. The low trading volume is attributable to the daily price variability and the better hedge against catastrophes provided by traditional forms of reinsurance.
